Communal Life
We were made for God but we weren't just made for God. God made us for one another as well. Of course God Himself is the end but we get to Him together; and as the church, the mystical body of Christ, we can't forget the importance of the communal life friends.
For example you can't love if you don't have someone to love. Jesus doesn't just say love; He says love one another, love your neighbor, that's the command. As we're still at the beginning of this new year it's important we discover or rediscover that call to build community among one another.
Of course chief among those ways is the Holy Mass. At every Holy Mass, we join together in the church's highest offering of worship and love, but there are other lesser but still important ways that we can build love and unity in this body of Christ.
Perhaps just joining or creating a men's or women's group in your area. Sit with the word or listen to a series on the faith and then pray and discuss. Maybe it's creating a gathering or a celebration for a really important feast day in your parish. Maybe it's volunteering regularly at the soup kitchen getting to know the names and the faces of the poor. Maybe it's as simple as a Friday Chaplet of Divine Mercy conference call at 3 PM.
This new year get creative, and in whatever way God calls, let's build the body of Christ.
Pray for me friends and know I'm praying for you.
