We are called to a life completely saturated in God. There is immense transformative power in simply gazing upon the face of Christ.
We can often find ourselves caught in an agenda in prayer and forgetting to simply be with Jesus and look at Jesus. This is a practice that is easy to fall away from, but the most important part of prayer is just sitting in front of the face of Christ. This is where we hear from the Lord, where we receive our identity, and when we have intimacy with Him. When we take time to be with Christ, gazing at His face, we can trust that it is not a one-way encounter. He is always gazing at us, and we can respond by gazing back.
Take some time to gaze upon the face of Christ in your own prayer time this week. Above is one image of Jesus’ face for you to meditate with but be sure to choose your own favorite image of Jesus.
“Let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.” ~ Hebrews 12:1-2
"When you receive the Lord, and are in His very presence, try to shut the bodily eyes and to open the eyes of the soul and to look into your own hearts. If you practice this habit of staying with Him... so great, indeed, may be your longing for Him that He will reveal Himself to you wholly." ~ St. Teresa of Avila, The Way of Perfection
